Direct Referrals under the Resource Management Act 1991

Our Resource Management team has created a flow chart to guide Council officers and/or applicants through the process for a direct referral under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). Direct referral is a process to fast track applications for notified consents, which tend to be contentious and of a larger scale and complexity.

The flowchart identifies the relevant sections in the RMA for each stage of the direct referral process, commencing upon lodgment of the application through to Council's decision on the direct referral and subsequent steps.
