Energy and Mining

Brookfields has a deep-seated understanding of the pressures on extractive industry and the energy sector under the Crown Minerals Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991 and earlier legislation (such as the Coal Mines Act).

Our work with territorial and unitary authorities means that we understand the competing interests (for example, fracking and public interest group opposition to this). We devise practical solutions to balance these.

We have acted for quarry operators and mining companies as well as for territorial authorities in both the processing of applications and responding to submissions/appeals on policy statement and plan provisions.

We've had in depth involvement in plan processes involving water allocation, discharge standards (both to water and air) water takes (municipal and site specific) and aquaculture (mixed farms).
