Matthew specialises in resource management, local government and public law. He has provided strategic advice to public and private clients on policy, urban and land development, plan changes, heritage matters and local government law under the Resource Management Act and other related environmental legislation.

Prior to joining Brookfields, Matthew appeared regularly in the Waitangi Tribunal and as junior counsel in the High Court on behalf of Marine and Coastal Area Act applicants. His experience includes extensive involvement in a unique and complex Treaty settlement involving the establishment a post settlement governance entity for the return of significant Crown forestry lands.

Matthew is passionate about achieving lasting and positive sustainable management outcomes for New Zealand’s environment and is committed to finding durable and practical solutions in the best interests of clients.
