Brookfields Congratulates New Award Recipient 2019

At the SOLGM Gala Dinner in May Brookfields had the pleasure of presenting the 2019 Brookfields Emerging Leader of the Year Award to Sandy Lowe, Risk Manager, Tararua District Council. Sandy will travel to the ICMA conference from 20-23 October in Tennessee, USA.

Sandy Lowe is an up and coming leader to watch, and was a standout candidate for this year’s Award. Every council needs a Sandy – someone who is prepared to put their hand up for the difficult jobs that no one else wants, turns problems into possibilities and relentlessly asks the right questions to create solutions for everyone’s benefit. Starting out as a part-time customer services representative, Sandy soon picked up multiple responsibilities and grew with each challenge. Regulatory and Licensing, Land Information Officer, Health and Safety Co-ordinator, Electoral Officer, and now Risk Management has been her trajectory over six years.

The judges were impressed by Sandy’s desire to step towards challenges and her ability to execute difficult tasks in a manner that created buy-in from all staff. Sandy’s approach and leadership has had a direct impact on council and the community, specifically in health and safety. Sandy’s desire to learn, communicate and share her experience with others is admirable. Sandy displays all the characteristics desirable in a local government leader and her story is inspiration for anyone entering local government.
